Woolwich Township Councillor insults the USA

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to the Elmira Independent the Woolwich Observer and the Kitchener Record.

To the Editor

Several weeks ago at the memorial centre Councillor Ruby Weber ordered an arena employee to take down an American flag that was put up for some visitors from the USA. The employee refused (like he/she should have), then Councillor Weber then went and tore it down herself and trashed it.

Since this incident I have been watching the papers for a report about this and nothing. I thought that a written apology would be published nothing. What is happening, are we just going to sit back and let this insult to our township go without anything said? Not only was this an insult to our southern neighbours but as a representative of this township, Councillor Weber insulted them on behalf of everyone in the township.

I am embarrassed to say I live in Woolwich. We have councillors who can behave in such manner and we all sit back and let it happen without a word said. I have heard a lot of rumblings about this and a lot of upset people. If you want something done then speak up go to the council meetings and write some letters. We all must get involved with what goes on with our local government.

Update:

I got a response from the two local papers in Woolwich and they did not want to publish this because I did not witness the event. They stated they are waiting for an actual witness to come to them. My comment are you not reporters/journalists go find the witnesses. They will not come to you. You may need to go out and investigate the news.

Men on the Moon

I have been sitting on this post for some time not wanting to wade into the controversy around this great achievement of humanity. 40 years ago the USA sent men to the moon and went back there 6 times. I was not around for the first moon shot so I was experiencing it by watching the real time simulated launch on http://wechoosethemoon.org and decided to go to YouTube to see some of the footage from the Apollo 11 landing.

I started read the comments below this video and could not believe some of things I read. These non believers must not really think about what they are saying. Besides the person who just spews insults some try to make arguments that the landing is fake. One person asks why the flag moves if there is no atmosphere? well watch the video, the flag only moves when they are touching it. Those movements are caused by the astronauts themselves. Some ones asks about the camera that took the pictures of Neil as he stepped onto the moon. That it must have been held by someone. Again look at the images, the angle and the vibrations as Neil takes his steps clearly show that it is mounted to the side of the Lander. This was a historical event do you not think they would not have placed a camera somewhere were it could record the event. Can some people just not see things objectively. There were thousands of people involved with this effort. If it was faked do you not think someone would have come forward by now. A secret is no longer a secret once more then one person knows of it.

Kirean posts a quote that fits this well
"Never argue with an idiot, they just drag you down to their level and beat you with years of experience." and V.S. Ramachandran, the Director for Brain and Cognition, points out in his book "A Brief Tour of Human Consciousness" "the delusionist will always rearrange reality to fit his or her delusion."

I know there is no arguing with these conspiracy people they are like the many who believe in UFO sightings or the ones who believe the Twin towers destruction was faked. I had to post just to get it out of my system.

Swine flu, Teachers, and drunk driving

Well from the title you can see that a few things in today's news have touched a nerve. You have stupid people who need to get some common sense, greedy over paid people who need to earn more and work less, and judges who need to get a clue.

First there were several stories regarding the swine flu. Several people were interviewed who are not eating pork because they are afraid of getting the flu. This would be the virus that has jumped from pigs to humans in Mexico(this time around). You can not get it from eating the meat. The virus only lives in live hosts and the human flu does not even come from the pig but is a pig virus that has mutated in a human. Do some reading and stop listening to the news hype.

The Ontario elementary school teaches ratified a four year contract yesterday. In the contact they received a 10% raise, and more prep time. This is 10% over 4 years or 2.5% a year, who is getting 2.5% now a days. We just handed out raises at work and the average was 1.3% or the cost of living. These people are like the auto works, they have the best benefits going yet still whine for more. (of course this is back firing on the auto works but the teachers are public sector) Teachers are already the highest paid public sector works and because of their wage increase in the last 10 years many programs have been cut and teaching tools like books, computers, and pencils need to be cut on a regular bases. Then they got more prep time, how much more time do they need to prepare for the same lesson they teach every year. The last time they got this they cut the kids break time by ten minutes. 4 years ago the kids had two 15 minute breaks and a hour lunch. Then they changed it to two 45 minutes nutrition breaks( same amount of time) but last year they took 5 minutes from each to meet prep time demand from the union. maybe if the teachers stayed at work for 8 hours a day like the rest of us that they could get their work done. I have sat out side several schools over the years waiting for or dropping off the kids. Most teachers show up just before the first bell and several leave before the last bell and most are gone with in 15 minutes of the last bell. I would love a 9 to 3 job. Maybe they need to privatise the schools and get the teachers to do some work.

Last a women was sentenced yesterday to three years in jail for driving a car into a utility pole, killing her passenger, while having 3 times the legal limit of alcohol. Why do we let these people get away with what is essential murder. In this case several people tried to take away her keys and she refused taxis. In another case several years ago the judge could not decide whether to give sentence the defendant to time served or two years house arrest and it was his second conviction for killing someone while driving under the influence. We need to get tuff on these offenders and start sentencing them for the crime they committed. 25 to life should be the sentence that is handed down for these crimes.

This has been my point of view.

Why we are in Afganistan

The uncle of the latest Canadian soldier kill in Afghanistan has asked the question. Why are we in Afghanistan? Reading of several articles have many people in her home town asking this question in grief. I must admit that or government and media outlets do not do a very good job to highlight why we are there. Afghanistan is a country that has been in turmoil for centuries and the last tyrants to control the country, used the blanked of religion to hide their sadistical abuses they practised.

Earlier this week a young couple tried to flee their village in Nimroz province (currently controlled by the Taliban) they were hunted down taken to a mosque, controled by ulta conservities, found guilty taken out into the street and exicuted. The crime Abdula Aziz and Gul Pecha commited, they wanted to get married. They were gunned down because of love. This happened regularly under the resigm of the Taliban along with there other humanitarian crimes like preventing girls from going to school. Under the Taliban it was common place for young children to starve to death because there father was killed and there mothers where then not able to go out in public to get food and water to substain their lives. People a killed regularly in the remote provinces for there religious and political views, opresion is a way of life.

We can't consously, in a have country, allow this to return to Afganistan. There are not enough troops in the country to properly police the country and bring it into modern times. We in the west have sent over token relief to make ourselves feel better but not be inconvienced. maybe it is time we were inconvienced. Maybe it is time that we do something for others and not just our selves.

The Bus Comes to Town

The GRT has finally setup a pilot route out to Elmira passing through St. Jacob's. I have taken it to get to work these past two days and found it very nice. I need to get up 40minutes earlier to get to the office by my normal 8am but that is no big deal. Yesterday not knowing the full schedule, when leaving work I had to wait 12 minutes for the first bus then 25 for the one that goes to Elmira.

There has not been that many people on the bus so I hope they do not discontinue this pilot but make it permanent. My hope is that it will continue and that when the lease on our one vehicle is up we can go down to one. We have been thinking about it for some time now and this bus route makes it very viable. Currently I save about $10 a week on gas, which does not seem much since I increase my commute by 60minutes a day, but if we can reduce by one vehicle then we would save several hundred a month. I even think in the winter if I continue to coach that I could make the Monday practices with time to spare, and with my two girls going to the same school next year getting them to the arena will be easy.

The only complaints I have about this service is that it does not run late enough. During the week the last bus leaves Conestoga mall at 6pm and on Saturday it leaves at 4pm and there is no Sunday service. I was thinking that this service would open the Conestoga malls jobs to more teens from Elmira and St. Jacob's. Stopping so early prevents the easy travel for these jobs. It also prevents the easy access to the movie theatre at the mall.

Lets hope that the route is made permanent and that the schedule is lengthen a little.

There are no fussy eaters

I was in the grocery store yesterday and watching the other customers fill there carts made me think of this. I watched one person with their child put two large bags of fries, hot dogs, mac and cheese, pop, pizzas and so on. No veggies, fruits, or non-processed meats. I know the reason for this is that the child is a fussy eater so they feed them what they feel the child wants. But there are no fussy kids there are kids that have been enabled. We know several families where the parents always make separate meals for the kids because they will not eat anything else. These parents have enabled their children to do this. This is just one symptom of the enabled child. If you notice the fussy kid will also cry when they want something knowing that the parent will cave and when they get older they will show no respect for there parents. One of my youngest daughters friend walks all over her farther. He came to get her one night and I was playing a game and I knew my daughter and her friend were talking at the front door. I went over to see what was going and noticed that her father was in the car waiting. I said your fathers here. Her response was " he can wait." I was flabbergasted at a 9 year old saying her dad could wait. Well I do not take any guff. i told her how rude that was and that her father is here it is time for her to go and she really should apologise to her father for making him wait.

How do you correct this? You need to take control of the situation. Your children do not run your life you control and mold your children's life. We adopted a brother and sister. They were 4 and 5 when they moved in and they had been in foster care for about a year. They where in a family of alcoholics who did not feed them much so they had food issues. The foster family enabled them and feed them what ever they wanted and let them do alot of what ever they wanted. When they moved in with us they would not eat what we made. We were concerned at first about holding food back from them since they did not have much food in there life till then. we talked to our doctor and he advised us that as long as we have food available at all times they will not starve. He told us our home is not a restaurant. if they do not eat supper they do not have to stay at the table but save the meal and feed it to them for breakfast. After two meals served this way they eat everything we serve. They now have developed a great taste for different foods. The menu has expanded from peperoni pizza, spaghetti, and chicken fingers to butter chicken, rice bryanni, pork roast, and eggplant parmigiana. We have a rule that they have to try every thing once. One of the other things they enabled was the brother would have fits if he did not get his way. The second month he was with us he went to his room and just started throwing everything into hall way and screaming. I left him for 5 to 10 minutes then I went up there told him to stop and that this behaviour was improper. He then had to clean and put everything back to where it belonged. He then was grounded for a day because of his behaviour. he never did it again.

If we did not enable our kids they would not be fussy. If the parents do not prevent this enabling then later in life they will have trouble fitting in with the rest of society

This was my point of view.

Isreal Palistine and Hamas

Now that Israel is pulling out of Palestine they need to win the hearts and minds of the Palestinian people away from the Hamas. How are they to do this? Well they need to start by rebuilding all of the homes they destroyed and by using local Palestinian labour to do it. Hospitals need to be rebuilt and fully functional and of course the infrastructure needs to be brought back online.

Once the infrastructure is up and running the next major task is education. If the young are allowed to attend proper secular schools the violence in the long run will be reduced. The education of girls must promoted most of all. Countries where there is a highly educated female population are more stable then the ones with the lower population of educated females.

Everything I say here is nothing new the Hamas took power because they built hospitals, schools and fed the people. they new that they must gain the trust of the people before they would gain real power. While Arafat's government was infighting and stealing the foreign aid, and Israel was putting up fences and denying food, work and aid to the Palestinian people, Hamas was feeding, treating and educating them in religious schools slanted to their view of Islam. The Hamas knew how to manipulate the people to see their cause as the right cause. Feed, treat and educate and you will win the hearts and minds of any population. Bomb destroy and leave, will cause the people will hate you.

It is the same in southern Lebanon if the west and Israel would build schools, hospitals and provide aid to the local population. The Syrian backed militias would have a hard time requiting members.

From the armchair political pundit this was my point of view.
